Lambeth is marching in Pride 2024

On 29 June, Lambeth staff, councilors and allies, including Fiona Connolly, Executive Sponsor of the Lambeth LGBTQ+ Staff Forum and Acting Chief Executive, marched from Hyde Park to Whitehall to celebrate Pride in the LGBTQ+ community.

Representation

Lambeth received official recognition in the 2021 census as the borough with the largest LGBTQ+ population in London. Our staff wore matching t-shirts so Lambeth residents could see themselves represented on the march.

Lambeth’s acting chief executive, Fiona Connolly, said: “This is only the second time Lambeth as a council has marched in Pride in London. This year’s pride was bigger and better as we had a Lambeth float on display for the first time.

Commitment to communities

“Lambeth has a rich history and commitment to advocacy and support for the LGBTQ+ community. Our commitment is to all our communities, to work together to tackle inequality. We will continue to celebrate the richness of diversity in Lambeth – which in turn empowers us to successfully deliver on our goals and deliver lasting cultural change.

Participation

“I would especially like to thank our LGBTQ+ Staff Forum Chairs for all their work behind the scenes to make our participation in this year’s Pride a reality. I would also like to thank our photographer on the day and the many councillors, staff and their family and friends for making this such a special and proud occasion.

“Our presence at Pride this year was significant and put us at the center of the parade. I am delighted that Lambeth continues to build such strong partnerships and we continue to take strategic action to help celebrate inclusion and eliminate discrimination, while constantly working to change the cultural attitudes that allow continued discrimination to exist.

House of Pride

“Lambeth is the home of Pride, we look forward to celebrating next year’s Pride. We will stand with our communities in Lambeth, not only to ensure that everyone can have a good quality of life, but also to fight for the justice they deserve. .”
