UK Mini Heatwave BBQ Warning Due to ‘Common’ BBQ Mistake

Britain is set to sizzle this weekend, so that can only mean one thing for many – barbecues. Met Office forecasters have predicted that today (Friday 19 July) will be “very hot” and could get even hotter for some across the UK over the weekend.

The forecast marks a stark contrast to the persistent rain we experienced throughout July. Yellow health warnings are in place for some, and for those where there is no warning, experts have spoken about the potential problems some may face in these scorching days, the Mirror reports.

One key thing many could do is take out the grill, so consumer experts at Which? gave their tips on how to get the most out of your meat. They’ve put together a key list for anyone looking to grill out this weekend.

Moving on to TikTok, which one is it? Five things you should never do when barbecuing even features a lesser-known blunder that many Brits might make. This focuses on how grilled foods can lose their moisture and flavor.

In the video, experts recommended checking their tips before lighting the grill. Which? said: “Never press down on burgers as this just forces all the juices out of the patties. Not only will it make the cleaning process more difficult, but it also means you’ll lose a lot of moisture and flavor.”

Experts also advise against spreading the coals evenly across the grill, suggesting that “only burning in one area means you can use the other bit as a heating pad.” For those with a hooded grill, this setup allows for indoor roasting or baking.

Which? also advises to “never light a grill with ash in the bottom or without using the vents.” They warn that a build-up of ash can interfere with airflow to the coals, making it more difficult for them to stay lit. Instead, it is recommended to dispose of the ash after each use.
