Sheffield Wednesday’s Liam Palmer has committed his future to Hillsborough beyond the 2023/24 season, the 32-year-old entering his 15th consecutive season in S6 since making his first-team debut in 2010/11 against Brighton in League One.

The Worksop-born defender was usually used as a centre-back for Sheffield Wednesday when they started games in the 2023/24 season, but has also found himself at right-back as well as occasionally in front of the defense alongside Barry Bannan.

However, with the recent signings, the depth of the team is safe on the field, opening the question of how much Palmer will be involved this season.

Palmer is likely to be used more off the bench this season, however Rohl needs to find where the Scot will make the biggest impact.

Palmer has been a prominent figure at Hillsborough over the years and has been such an important player of late under Rohl.

The 32-year-old could still command a centre-back spot depending on how many additional signings are made by Rohl, however Palmer could be the most effective off the bench and placed in midfield for Bannan.

Despite playing most of his career in defence, he can make a difference when used in midfield and could be brilliant alongside Svante Ingelsson coming off the bench in the final 20 minutes.

Both players would guarantee high pressing and energy which would be invaluable when it comes to the end of a game for Sheffield Wednesday, something Rohl will be fully aware of when deciding how Palmer will fit into his plans for the season 2024/25. .
