The cheapest places in Leicestershire to fill up this weekend as temperatures soar

According to the latest figures, Loughborough remains the cheapest place for petrol in Leicestershire. Prices have remained flat over the past seven days, which is good news for motorists amid the ongoing cost of living crisis and those looking to hit the road this scorching weekend.

The findings, which come in the latest figures from the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), show that the Sainsbury’s garage in Loughborough is once again the cheapest in Leicestershire, charging drivers 138.9 per liter from the Greenclose Lane yard. That means it would cost £76.40 to fill an average 55 liter tank.

Loughborough remains 2 per liter cheaper than its nearest rival – Sainsbury’s in Market Harborough’s St Mary’s Place. For the third consecutive week, its price of 140.9 per liter remains unchanged.

According to the CMA, the average petrol price motorists have paid at the pumps over the past seven days is 145.5 per liter of petrol. In Leicestershire, the average is in line with the rest of the UK.

The most expensive petrol station in Leicestershire remains the BP station at junction 23a of the M1 in Castle Donington. The Donington service area currently charges people 168.9 per litre, meaning it would cost a total of £92.90 to fill up an average family car at this yard.

Meanwhile, Loughborough Sainsbury’s is also the cheapest for diesel. The Greenclose Lane yard is 1p per liter cheaper than its nearest rival, currently asking drivers to pay 143.9 a liter at the pumps.

On average, CMA data shows UK diesel drivers paid £150.5 a liter this week. Again, in Leicestershire drivers pay no different to the UK average.

Elsewhere, the cheapest place to buy petrol in the UK is at a Sainsbury’s garage in the Causeway Coast and Glens, where a liter of standard petrol costs 136.9 a litre. The most expensive petrol station in the country is an Esso garage in Thurrock, where drivers are paying £169.9 a litre.
