Leicestershire Post airs ‘wonderful’ iconic images after devastating losses

A Leicestershire postwoman is turning heads and ‘brightening’ people’s days by swapping her uniform for a collection of iconic outfits. Mary Button took the loss of two colleagues to heart problems and channeled it into a spectacular fashion show.

Postman Mary has turned her Friday rounds in Ashby into a run for charity. As well as posting letters, she provides many smiles in support of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) in a bid to ensure more colleagues do not die from heart problems.

The 53-year-old has so far shown off a colorful array of eye-catching outfits in her rounds. Among her standout looks is her Ginger Spice inspired outfit.

Postman Mary dressed up as Mary Poppins for World Book Day earlier this year.

The idea for the fundraiser was initially for the posters to have “Friday clothes”, but Mary had other ideas. She wanted to do more, especially after the loss of two colleagues at Royal Mail.

She said: “My boss suggested they dress up on Friday, but in my head, I heard dress up on Friday. I choose good characters that everyone can relate to. Two of our colleagues died of heart problems. This is the second year that Royal Mail. supported this charity so it’s certainly close to our hearts.”

Mary’s efforts haven’t gone unnoticed, with Geri Halliwell’s iconic ’90s look being a huge hit so far. The response from Ashby residents has also been overwhelmingly positive.

Mary said: “My clients are absolutely the best. They all absolutely love it.”
