Planning consent has been secured for nearly 300 homes

Wakefield councilors have voted to approve plans for 298 new homes in Knottingley.

Built on land earmarked for housing in the Wakefield Local Plan, the plans will provide a mix of homes for local families, first-time buyers and young children.

Properties will range from two to four bedrooms, including terraced, semi-detached and detached homes. All homes will have electric vehicle chargers and air source heat pumps.

Residents will also have access to more than 160,000 square meters of open public space, including a children’s play area.

The builder will contribute more than £400,000 to local infrastructure improvements, including improving the level crossings at Blackburn Lane and improving bus shelters for routes 148/149 at Common Lane/Weeland Road.

James Parkin, Field Director at Persimmon West Yorkshire, said: “We are delighted that committee members have voted to reaffirm the council’s recommendation of approval.

“This development will offer a wide range of home types for young people, families and toddlers alike, with excellent access to local amenities.

“As well as providing much-needed quality new homes, the approval of these plans also secures further investment in Knottingley.”
