Birmingham City have signed Iceland international Willum Willumsson on his sixth summer deal

Birmingham City have completed the signing of Iceland midfielder Willum Willumsson from Go Ahead Eagles.

Willumsson becomes the Blues’ sixth signing of the summer transfer window, following deals for Ryan Allsop, Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Alfie May, Emil Hansson and Alex Cochrane. He joins the Blues on a four-year deal.

The 25-year-old, who stands at 6ft 3in, is an attacking midfielder who has scored 15 goals in two seasons in the Eredivisie with the Go Ahead Eagles. Willumsson scored seven times in 31 games last term as the Go Ahead Eagles finished ninth in the table.

Willumsson, a left-footed player who has operated as a support forward over the past 12 months, is a full Iceland international with nine caps to his name. His younger brother, Brynjólfur Willumsson, has also recently entered the Icelandic set-up.

Willumsson started his career with Icelandic side Breiðablik before moving to Bate Borisov in 2019. While in Belarus, Willumsson played in the Champions League qualifiers in the 2019/20 season.

The Icelander is set to link up with Chris Davies’ side imminently and could make his debut in Saturday’s friendly with Shrewsbury Town. The Blues have played two friendlies so far, losing 5-0 to SC Paderborn 07, before beating Solihull Moors 3-0 on Wednesday.
