BH Live are recruiting for an experienced Operations Manager to join our team at Fairfield Halls in Croydon. Fairfield Halls is an iconic arts, events and conference venue, hosting a program of events throughout the year including concerts, cultural performances, musicals and plays, conferences and exhibitions.

Job Title: Operations Manager

Location: Fairfield Halls – Croydon – London

Salary: £40,000 per annum

Hours: 40 hours per week

Contract type: Permanent

The role:

This is a generalist operations manager role and you will need a strong background of working and leading successful teams in a theatre, arts, heritage or visitor attraction. Previous experience of managing a large and busy event is essential for this role.

Will you:

  • Plan and manage events and venue tasks.
  • Liaise with internal teams on specific events and take the lead on behalf of Fairfield Halls in event planning.
  • Make sure our customers have a great experience when they visit Fairfield Halls.
  • Build effective working relationships with third-party contractors and suppliers.
  • Liaise with local authorities to ensure event safety and security are aligned with venue licensing.
  • Maintain effective team management, including visitor experience and security.
  • Develop rotations to ensure adequate staffing and security are in place and within agreed budgets.

To be successful you will need:

  • Experience of providing effective visitor experience management in a busy and large art, heritage or visitor attraction.
  • Experience in managing a large venue.
  • Take the lead and be organized in event planning.
  • Understand the importance of providing excellent customer service.
  • Be able to manage, lead and motivate teams.
  • A personal license or the ability to obtain one within a reasonable time frame.
  • To make decisions in accordance with BH Live policies and procedures.

Job requirements

Essential

  • Experience of working in a theatre, arts, heritage or visitor attraction
  • Ability to make decisions in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Experience interviewing and recruiting people
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Good administrative skills
  • Knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft 360, Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to lead a motivated customer-oriented team
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
  • The experience of training colleagues
  • A track record of effectively managing the visitor experience in an arts, heritage or visitor attraction
  • Proven track record of delivering results within an arts, visitor attraction legacy
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings and public holidays to meet business requirements
  • Experience in managing a large venue
  • Have a personal license or be able to obtain one within a reasonable time

Desirable

  • Level 2 food safety qualification

Responsibilities of the workplace

The operations team at Fairfield Halls are responsible for ensuring that each of our visitors receives a fantastic customer experience befitting South London’s largest arts venue.

You will oversee the efficient operational running of customer facing areas of Fairfield Halls, ensuring the highest standards of service are provided to all our visitors and maintaining adequate staffing and security levels.

You will need previous experience of managing and motivating shift staff, creating rotations for large locations, scheduling inductions and refresher training for colleagues and have a thorough knowledge of the location’s health and safety requirements.

Experience managing a large and busy event is essential.

  • Working closely with the Senior Operations Manager, you will ensure that appropriate security levels are in place.
  • Support the Senior Operations Manager and Operations Manager (Hospitality) in running events and venue operations.
