Woman locks ‘pit bull’ out of control in home after it attacks dogs

An ‘out of control’ dog has attacked people and other animals on a residential street. Police were called to Peel Road in Bootle at around 3.15pm today, July 19. The dog, described by eyewitnesses as a “pit bull-type” breed, is said to have been out of control when it attacked two smaller dogs and at least one bystander. .

Neighbors reported seeing several police cars and a Matrix van coming down the street as officers dealt with the incident. The two smaller dogs were injured in the attack and taken to vets for treatment. The owner, who also suffered injuries, was treated by paramedics at the scene. No other injuries were reported, although police said they were trying to identify anyone else who was injured.




A neighbor told the ECHO that “there was a lot of blood and the dog that attacked was out of control” and “charged”. One man said he heard “a big commotion outside” and saw a woman “being attacked by a loose dog”. The woman allegedly “ran into a house, followed by the dog and locked him inside.” Police confirmed the dog was kept in an unoccupied home and said it has now been seized.

Speaking to the ECHO hours after the incident, a woman walking her dog in a nearby park said her partner warned her that a “dangerous dog was running loose” in the area. She added: “I was like, am I okay walking my dog? I don’t want him to get hurt, but most dogs are fine around here.”

Another neighbor said: “I wouldn’t let my dog ​​near such a big dog. I had a dog a few years ago that had its stomach ripped open by a pit bull, so you have to watch it.”

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: “We can confirm that an investigation is ongoing following reports that people and dogs were bitten by a dog in Bootle this afternoon (Friday, July 19). Around 3.15pm, two more dogs were reported to have been attacked. of the offending animal, which was taken to a vet for treatment, no injuries were reported to police, apart from the owner who was treated by paramedics after the incident.

“The dog was kept in a house with no people inside and has now been seized by the police. On-site investigations are being carried out to identify any injured parties, and checks with local hospitals are ongoing.
