Arsenal icon backs blockbuster Manchester United signing for greatness

Thierry Henry believes Manchester United signing Leny Yoro has the makings of a good defender who has crossed paths with the former Lille man as France Under-21 coach.

Henry believes Yoro is a model young professional and feels he will mature into a great player for Manchester United.

Yoro has broken into Lille’s starting XI despite still being a teenager and stands out as one of the continent’s brightest centre-back prospects.

Manchester United’s capture of the young Frenchman looks like a move inspired by the new squad at Old Trafford.

Henry had nothing but good things to say about Yoro and a week after his signing was announced, United also revealed the signing of another promising young talent in Joshua Zirkzee, there is a buzz at Old Trafford once again.

“We often talk about Leny,” Henry said in his assessment of Yoro.

“He has an exemplary start to his career. To settle in Lille as he does.

“He always has youthful reactions, and that’s completely normal. It comes slowly, you make mistakes and sometimes you embarrass yourself.

“(But) he keeps playing game after game, starts quite often and is good quite often. It’s really good for him. He is professional, he is a good guy, well educated.

“I like him. He’s doing well. After that, there’s always things to refine, but that’s completely normal. Honestly, it’s really more than a positive progression.”

Yoro attracted by Manchester United’s reputation for nurturing young stars

Yoro revealed that Manchester United’s reputation for supporting young players in key roles attracted him to the club.

“To sign for a club of Manchester United’s stature and ambition so early in my career is an incredible honour,” Yoro said at the unveiling.

“From my first conversations with the club, they have set out a clear plan on how I can develop in Manchester as part of this exciting project and have shown a lot of care for me and my family.

“I know the history of the young players at Manchester United and I feel it can be the perfect place to reach my potential and achieve my ambitions, together with my new team-mates. I can’t wait to get started.”

Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth was confident the club had captured a future defensive star.

“Leny is one of the most exciting young defenders in world football; he possesses all the attributes to become a top centre-back,” said Ashworth.

“Having had an excellent start to his career, we are delighted to support him in reaching his huge potential here at Manchester United.

“This club has a fantastic track record of developing young players, whether they are of local origin or brought in from elsewhere, and giving them the guidance, time and patience they need to grow and flourish.

“Under Erik ten Hag and our excellent staff, we will ensure that Leny has the perfect platform to achieve the success that everyone at the club is looking for.”
