A man has been jailed for 14 years after assaulting a boy in Walsall, leaving him with lifelong brain damage.

In a horrific attack in 2018, Jordan Cattell hit a baby repeatedly in the head as he lay in his crib

Fortunately, the 10-month-old survived his injuries, but will need full-time care for the rest of his life due to his disabilities.

When questioned by police, Cattell, 25, claimed the baby had fallen, creating a story in an attempt to cover up his shocking actions.

Cattell, of Selbourne Road, Handsworth, was found guilty at an earlier hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

He was sentenced to 14 years in prison on July 12.

Detective Constable Lucy Simpson from our Public Protection Unit said: “This was a distressing case, particularly as it has such a long-lasting effect on the victim, who was a young and innocent child at the time.

“The injuries sustained affected the victim’s life, leading to lifelong disability.

“It took years of hard work to bring this case to court, and I’m glad that Cattell has been put behind bars for a significant period of time.”
