Police arrest suspect after stabbing on tram near Lloyd Park – Inside Croydon

Police were called to a Croydon tram at Addiscombe yesterday evening with a passenger stabbed and their attacker was quickly arrested.

The Tram Stabbing: last night’s incident happened between Lloyd Park and Sandilands

The incident is believed to have taken place in the tram tunnel between Lloyd Park and Sandilands tram stations.

According to the Metropolitan Police, officers were called “to reports of a stabbing on the Croydon tram network near Lloyd Park” at 6.54pm.

Chief Superintendent Andy Brittain, neighborhood commander for Croydon, tweeted: “Officers arrived four minutes after receiving the call”, perhaps showing a desire to show off the prompt response times from his officers.

“They caught a chaotic scene, providing first aid to the victim and quick investigations leading to the suspect’s arrest,” surf wrote. Ch. Brittain.

Inside Croydon understands that the victim has already been discharged from the hospital.

Croydon Mayor Jason Perry described it as a “tragic” incident, although no one died.

It was, the mayor said, “deeply shocking to everyone involved.”

Perry tweeted: “Our hearts go out to the victim and we are incredibly grateful for the quick response of the police who arrived within four minutes to provide crucial first aid.”

The incident is now being dealt with by British Transport Police, who provided this statement Inside Croydon: “Officers were called to Addiscombe tram station in Croydon at around 7pm yesterday following reports of a serious assault on board a tram between Sandilands and Lloyds Park.

“Officers attended alongside paramedics and a man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, believed to have been stabbed. Later, he was discharged from the hospital.

“A 40-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of GBH and remains in custody. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area today as investigators gather evidence from the scenes. The tram network is running a normal service.

“While we are confident this was an isolated incident, additional security patrols will be carried out in the area by both the Metropolitan Police and British Transport Police.

“Enquiries into this incident are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 682 of July 18.

“Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
