Di'shon Bernard has re-signed with Sheffield Wednesday

Reggae boyz defender Di’shon Bernard has re-signed with English Championship side Sheffield Wednesday after long-running contract negotiations came to a successful conclusion.

Bernard moved to Hillsborough last summer from Manchester United and played 36 times in all competitions for the Owls, who pulled off an improbable survival bid with three wins in the last three games of the season.

The 23-year-old was offered a new contract in May, according to the club’s retained list, but the situation has remained unresolved until now, with talks continuing throughout the summer.

Talks are said to have stalled during his involvement in the Copa America, where Bernard played in all three of the group stage matches before Jamaica were eliminated.

News of Bernard’s signing will serve as a boost to Wednesday’s squad heading into this weekend’s trip to Germany for the second of their pre-season camps.

The length of the contract was not disclosed.
