Gareth Bale reveals the secret of Tottenham’s amazing hat-trick against Sheffield United

Gareth Bale says his stunning hat-trick against Sheffield United shows he just needed a run of games at Tottenham after a lack of action under Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho never trusted Bale during his time at Spurs, but the Welshman seems to be finding form and rhythm under caretaker manager Ryan Mason.

Bale scored three goals in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Sheffield United and said he is happy again now that he is getting game time and Spurs are “playing Tottenham-style football”.

Bale told Sky Sports: “I feel good. I just needed to play, I just needed a series of games and I’m doing that now.

“I’m happy and when I’m happy I normally play well.

“The fact that we are more on the front foot means we are closer to goal and are able to score more. We’ve been working on it for the past few weeks.

“It won’t happen overnight, but I feel we’re taking a step in the right direction and playing Tottenham-style football.”

Tottenham are five points behind Chelsea with four games remaining in the race for the top four.

Bale said: “It was a great performance from the first whistle. We felt we were on the front foot, we pressed well, controlled the ball and played good football.

“As for the hat-trick, yes, it’s always nice to get another match ball.

“But more importantly, three points for the team and we’re on to the next one. It was a great performance from everyone. We are happy with the three points.”
