Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway is skipping the show to be with dad in Cornwall

Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway has sparked concern among viewers over her absence from the show, reportedly having to rush to hospital. On Friday (July 19), Charlotte Hawkins and Rob Rinder replaced Kate, presenting the show in her place.

This comes after it was reported that Kate is holding a vigil at the bedside of her father Gordon, who is believed to have suffered a stroke and heart attack. Kate was reported to have left work suddenly after GMB finished filming on Tuesday after hearing the news of her father’s collapse at his home in Cornwall, and rushed to be with him.

A source revealed to The Sun: “Sadly, Kate’s father collapsed earlier this week while staying with her mother and brother in Cornwall. It was incredibly frightening as he was found unconscious and immediately taken to hospital. It looks like he’s had a stroke and probably a heart attack as well – the doctors are still doing tests.”

The insider also revealed: “He remains in hospital and is currently stable, but understandably it has given the whole family a terrible scare and they are praying he can recover.” GMB viewers took to social media to question her absence, with one writing: “Guess Kate’s not #GMB because of her dad…sending love.”

This distressing news comes shortly after the death of Kate’s husband Derek Draper, who suffered from Covid-19 for a long time and was left in a coma due to the virus. He left behind Kate and their two children, Darcey and Billy, The Mirror reports.

Kate took a break from her duties, sharing with fans: “I look forward to waking up with you again very soon on Good Morning Britain to celebrate life in all its wonder and challenge again.”
