Bus timetables for Brighton Pride are changing

Bus timetables for the busy Pride weekend have been revealed.

Transport bosses are gearing up for the weekend when Brighton’s population swells by hundreds of thousands and roads are closed to keep festivalgoers safe.

Special services will run frequently between Waterhall Campground, Old Steine and Preston Park for £3 per person.

The Pride bus timetable starts overnight on Thursday 1 August when the Fabuloso festival takes place in Preston Park.

A section of Preston Road will be closed between 10pm and 2am and routes 5, 5A and 271 and 272 will be diverted.

On Friday, the Aquarium Roundabout and St James Street close from 10pm and will remain closed until 8am the following Monday.

All eastbound services normally using these roads will be diverted via Edward Street.

Saturday’s main event means dozens of roads in Brighton are closed.

North Street, Old Steine and London Road closed at around 10.30am and will not reopen until later in the afternoon.

Full timetable information is available at buses.co.uk/brighton-pride and affects some of the city’s busiest routes, including the 1, 5 and 12.

Ed Wills, managing director of Brighton and Hove Buses, said: “Brighton and Hove Pride is hugely important to our community and we are delighted to be playing our part in making sure people can travel safely to and from the event.

“We want everyone to have a fantastic time, which is why we’re running special services between Preston Park, Old Steine and Waterhall Camping. We strongly advise people to plan their journeys and allow plenty of time to get home.”

The company’s diversity bus

The bus company is again working with organizers to join the parade with LGBT+ support organization Switchboard.

On board will be representatives from other Pride events in the region and the family of George Montague, who was known as the “oldest gay man in the village” before his death in 2022 aged 99.

Its rainbow-colored Diversity Bus will be on display next to the Peace Statue and serve as a viewing platform for families with autism.
