Coventry’s comic shop is celebrating its incredible 30th anniversary

A popular comic shop in Coventry is set to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Forbidden Planet in the city center will be hosting a ‘party’ on Saturday July 27 at the store to mark the occasion.

The fantasy and cult entertainment retailer is the UK’s largest distributor of the latest comics and graphic novels and specializes in action figures, books, comics, DVDs, toys and film and television merchandise.

This includes merchandise from all the best movies and shows from the Marvel and DC universes, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Star Trek, Stranger Things, Star Wars and more. Whether you’re looking for toys, figures, collectables or accessories, bosses say they’re “all on offer”.

For comic fans, the latest comics are delivered weekly from Marvel and DC to Image and Boom, with all the newest manga titles freshly translated and published in their original right-to-left format. For book lovers, the store offers a wide range of science fiction and science books, as well as cult and pulp titles that “you won’t find anywhere else”.

They host many signings and have signed stocks by Dan Slott, Charles Stross, Neil Gaiman, Guillermo del Toro and more. For gamers, discover core rules, add-ons and fiction from the worlds of Dungeons and Dragons, HP Lovecraft and Magic The Gathering, plus products from popular games like Halo and Assasins’ Creed.

A statement on @covcitycentre on X said: “Did you know Forbidden Planet has been in Coventry for 30 years? You are invited to celebrate with them on Saturday 27th July at their store on Cross Cheaping”.

As the store celebrates its 30th anniversary, many locals have praised the store for its “unique” collections and “interesting” figures, with a 4.4 star rating on Google reviews.

Cameron Gray said: “This store has changed so much over the years. It now has a fresh new look with a welcoming window and bright interior. It’s not the biggest Forbidden Planet store so the range is limited, but they have a good cross-line section and a well-stocked comic section If you’re looking for a specific product and making a special trip, I’d call them first to make sure they have it.”

Bethan Parkin said: “Amazing sales – books for £99! Good range of collectibles – like funko. Lots of comics available at the back of the shop.”
