The Coventry City boss has explained exactly why he wasted no time in re-signing Luis Binks

Mark Robins has spoken about his thinking behind the re-signing of Luis Binks and explained why the summer signing from Bologna did not go as far as the player would have liked during his loan spell last season.

The Sky Blues wasted little time in upgrading the 22-year-old’s temporary move to become a permanent fixture at the Championship club this summer, paying £1.7m for the centre-half who signed a four-year deal on the back of “quite a lot of interest” from other clubs.

Asked if it was a decision to bring Binks back to the CBS Arena as long as the numbers stack up, the manager told CoventryLive: “He’s a top person and he wants to be a top player. And he’s got some really good attributes and we’ve seen some of that, not least when he came on at Wembley against Manchester United and he was absolutely outstanding.

“The use of the ball is brilliant and he is a very good player and a great lad to be around. So when we thought we could do something, we did, and there’s been quite a lot of interest in Binksy, and rightly so, so we’re excited to get him.”

Binks was limited to just 15 league starts and 23 appearances in all competitions last season. Explaining why, Robins said: “Obviously he’s been in and out of the team. What he found difficult was the two-month period where we stuck with the same back four because we needed a bit of consistency and we hadn’t won enough games at the start of the season and the four who played there were performances. and we take points.

“So for him it was frustrating and I spoke to him and he continued. And that was one of the things that impressed me about him.”
