Just when to expect rain as Britain’s mini heatwave comes to an end

After 48 hours of unwavering sunshine, summer 2024 returns on Saturday – when the rain returns. It’s been a wet July in the UK so far and it’s showing no signs of letting up.

This afternoon, Saturday 20th July, we expect to see the rain return to the West Midlands. It comes just hours after a hot spell where 20C conditions remained until the early hours.

However, by 4pm the Met Office is predicting dark cloud and rain across the region. And what’s worse, they’re forecasting that we’ll see five hours of rain from there.

Temperatures will be steady in Birmingham and the Black Country until Saturday – between 18 and 22 degrees. The Met Office is also predicting a sunnier Sunday.

This is the forecast:

Saturday

A bright and warm start, although becoming cloudier from the west with some outbreaks of rain likely through the afternoon, possibly becoming heavy later. Warm in the sun, although cooler than Friday.

Cloudy with some showers this evening although these have eased off leaving a mostly dry night although skies remain fairly cloudy. I feel fresher towards dawn. Minimum temperature 14 °C.
