Grix looks at the Wigan Challenge

Club News

Simon Grix hopes to see a more disciplined performance from Hull FC when they welcome Wigan Warriors to the MKM Stadium this afternoon.

Hull are three games without a win despite brave displays in recent games against Warrington, Salford and Hull KR.

And Grix wants to see a more “disciplined” performance against the current league leaders.

“We just have to be disciplined about getting it right and we keep the standards really high on that,” he said.

“We’re going to continue to hammer it home, practice, show them why it works and when it might have worked in past games and continue to give them the confidence to keep buying in, which I think they do. We will continue to connect with him. Let’s hope it comes for us.

“Everybody plays pretty similar. We can all come up with plans on how we can try to deny the opposition and take advantage of what we might see as weaknesses or areas where they might struggle.

“But if you don’t repeat it or do it multiple times, you don’t get what you need out of it. For us, it’s about trying to get that discipline with the way we play.”

The Warriors head to East Yorkshire unbeaten in almost three months. In fact, their last defeat came in this side of the world when they were toppled by Hull KR at Sewell Group Craven Park.

“I’m a bit of a machine, Wigan, and have been for a while,” he said.

“For as long as I can remember, Wigan have been one of the best at producing young talent and bringing them in and then planning to have them in that team with the pathways for them.

“So it’s not a surprise when somebody at the top quits and the next guy at the top just comes in and does a really good job for them.

“They have recruited really well and have a lot of depth, especially in the midfield. Even though they are resting a few internationals, they probably have a couple more waiting to come.

“We know it’s a tough physical task against Wigan and we’ll have to be really good to be in that game, but we can’t be too worried about them.”
