The Birmingham teaspoon and spoon fetch almost £4,000 at auction

Two spoons found at a Birmingham home have sold for thousands at auction. The spoon and ladle went under the hammer with Richard Winterton Auctioneers in Fradley, near Lichfield, on Monday (May 13) and went for £3,850 together.

Both were polished and made by Adam Veevers, a designer and goldsmith from Birmingham. Both were made of 18 carat gold, meaning they were 75% pure gold,

The spoon was engraved with “Grace” on the handle, marked in Birmingham and weighed 49g. While the spoon, engraved with Lloyd, weighed 65.7g.

Both have been boxed and are said to have “minor surface scratches”. But that didn’t deter bidders with the spoon, lot 54, which fetched £1,650 after an initial bid of £1,500. And the spoon is going for £2,200 – bringing the owner who lives in Birmingham city center £3,850 less auction fees.

Auctioneers described the sales as a “stunning result” for solid gold spoons. Head of jewelery Lisa Spence said: “These spoons came in for appraisal along with some coins. We determined that both the spoon and teaspoon were in fact solid gold and we are delighted that they sold so well at auction.”
