Birmingham Airport is alive as security changes take place on the busiest travel day of the year

Thousands of passengers are flying out of Birmingham Airport today, July 20, on one of the busiest travel days of the year. More than 2 million tourists will use BHX in the peak of summer, and as families jet off to the most popular destinations of Palma, Dubai, Dublin and Tenerife, airport bosses have made some changes to the terminal as they prepare for “ busiest summer on record.”

Airport bosses confirmed this week that they have opened stair options for those wanting to get to security without using the lift – and it has arrived just in time for hordes of families jetting off abroad. The new access option will be welcome news as systems recover from Friday’s global IT outage, which grounded thousands of flights, disrupted banking and healthcare services and hit other sectors.

The airport told BirminghamLive that they have two stair options, one is the Jet2 crossing stair and the other is a stair next to the lifts. It is hoped that this will work to stop queues in the security hall, especially during peak hours.
