Search for the prisoner who went missing from HMP Leyhill

Police are looking for a 42-year-old man who escaped from HMP Leyhill in South Gloucestershire yesterday (July 19). Gary Rootham is serving sentences for matters including driving offences, robbery and burglary.

He was last seen at around 5.40pm on Friday by prison staff. He was said to be wearing a dark Nike polo shirt, dark sweatpants and black trainers with white soles.




Police have released images to help find the wanted man. They describe him as 5ft 11in tall with short dark brown hair and is usually clean shaven.

It has links to Reading and Cornwall. Police are urging anyone who sees Rootham not to approach him, but to call 999 quoting 5224188647. Anyone with information about his whereabouts or otherwise can also call 101.
