Jamal Lowe reveals the former Sheffield Wednesday player who convinced him to join

Jamal Lowe has been given plenty of reasons by a former Sheffield Wednesday player to commit his future to Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday new signing Jamal Lowe arrived at Hillsborough with plenty of promise of goals ahead of the 2024/25 Championship campaign.

He spent last season on loan at Swansea City, where he managed to score an impressive nine goals as well as contribute three assists.

His experience will be crucial for Danny Rohl’s side, with the striker making 186 league appearances in the previous six seasons in the Championship.

Lowe has already admitted that Rohl was instrumental in his decision to join the club, with the pair engaging in an hour-long phone conversation before the former Bournemouth striker made the decision to join Sheffield Wednesday.

The striker has since revealed a former Owls player convinced him to join Sheffield Wednesday ahead of the new season.

George Byers helped convince Jamal Lowe to join Sheffield Wednesday

Lowe said former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder George Byers was instrumental in the forward’s decision to join the club.

Speaking to The Star, Lowe said: “You know what, George really likes it – he’s actually a fan now. I know he used to be a Rangers fan but I think he supports Sheffield Wednesday more than Rangers now.

“It broke a lot of things about my game. The things the team and he do are exactly the same, as well as things I can add and things I might need to change to work with this team.

“It’s very detailed, very in-depth and never leaves a stone unturned.

“You know what he wants, and if you don’t, then it’s because you weren’t really paying attention. The information is there, he gives you instructions or statistics about it – and that’s very good.”

Danny Rohl’s positive impact on former players may have a lasting impact on Sheffield Wednesday

When it comes to Sheffield Wednesday bringing new recruits through the door, they might not necessarily come out on top financially, but the art of persuasion really belongs to the Owls.

There is still not a single former Sheffield Wednesday player who has spoken negatively about Rohl since he began his tenure at the club.

The German manager has been praised by both old and new players, something that may have a lasting effect on the club and its transfer dealings.

Hillsborough at the moment is a beacon of positivity and an attractive place for someone of Championship standard to develop their career.

Just as Byers did to convince Lowe to join the club, there will no doubt be other former players who would be more than happy to give Sheffield Wednesday a glowing reference after witnessing first-hand the the brilliant work Rohl has done at the club.
