Lafayette Police Officer Hali Bradford details the road to recovery

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)– Lafayette Police Officer Hali Bradfordwho is overcoming the fact that she was paralyzed in the leg while shot in the line of duty, shared that the road to recovery has been difficult, but said things are taking a turn for the better.

“It was a huge struggle of mine to go from a CrossFit athlete to a paraplegic. It’s been really hard for me to accept that even today and deal with that and this new me that I’ve had to live with for about a year,” Bradford said.

During the August 5, 2023, shooting on General Marshall Street, Officer Bradford was responding to a domestic disturbance when she was shot. She remembers her husband Adam Bradford, who was also a police officer with the Lafayette Police Department, as one of the many who saved her life.

“He actually found me the night of the shooting, almost dead on the side of the road, and took me to the hospital,” she said.

The two had just married three weeks before the shooting, and two days after the shooting, Bradford turned 25.

“It’s been a journey and we’re trying to work through the struggles and just work on ourselves and our relationship through this difficult process,” she said.

Looking back on the journey and all it has overcome, the road to recovery continues. Now, undergoing treatment with a doctor in Lake Charles, she has seen progress in her partially paralyzed leg.

Besides the fact that the cost of the treatment he needs is expensive, doors are opening.

“Right now workers comp is working on trying to make an exception just because of the trip I’m on and the injuries I sustained on the job, but unfortunately they can’t guarantee anything either and so a The gofundme was created so that I can receive some medical donations for the treatment I am receiving,” she said

Bradford hopes to one day regain full use of his leg and return to being a police officer.

“I have loved serving my community since I was a child. I knew what I was going to do all along. I joined the military, went to college, and then ended up at the Lafayette Police Department, where I’ve been working nights in precinct four ever since,” she said. “My ultimate goal was to be able to return to my team and serve the great city of Lafayette.”
