Birmingham City and Sheffield United Target update coming up

Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson has admitted the transfer saga around the Championship and Birmingham City’s interest in Harrison Burrows has “accelerated”.

The League One player of the season has been the subject of one of the most notable transfer stories of the summer so far. The 22-year-old has remained in the headlines as sides battle it out for his signature.

Sheffield United came close to securing the signing, but delays in taking over the club left the door open for other clubs to poach the player. Preston North End have been heavily linked, with suggestions they had a bid for the player rejected, however reports emerged earlier this week suggesting they have now ended their interest with boss Ryan Lowe confirming the news.

“We have an assessment and we have a certain amount of money that we can spend. “We’re sticking to it, which is what we’ve done the whole time we’ve been here. He is a good player, but there are many equally good players.

“He’s a good player but fair play to (chairman) Peter (Ridsdale) and owner Craig (Hemmings). They made an offer, it wasn’t accepted, and we’re on to the next one.”

What was said?

Now, with the player set to feature in a behind-closed-doors friendly today, Peterborough boss Ferguson has again opted to sideline him, citing developments in the process.

“Harrison is a fit boy”

“He played 60 games last season and we will take it day by day with him. If we think we have to play him, we will, but there has been a lot of interest in him, as everyone knows, and that interest has accelerated in the last 48 hours.” – Peterborough Telegraph

Why is the Peterborough United star sidelined?

With the player likely to leave this summer, the Posh decision-makers are simply protecting their asset. Should Burrows get injured, it could rule him out of any potential moves in this window, which in turn could affect Peterborough’s plans for the funds they would receive.

The League One club are experts at selling players at the right time and somehow always manage to replace them to repeat the process. They clearly feel that this is when his salable value is at its peak for what they can achieve and will work for that sale.
