Liverpool take on Brighton at Anfield today, hoping to regain top spot in the Premier League for at least a short while.

The Reds have the honor of starting a huge Easter Sunday in the title race and a point will lift them to the top ahead of Manchester City who host Arsenal later this afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered a couple of heavy blows ahead of the international break, losing out on top spot after a controversial draw with City, before being knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United in dramatic fashion.

But Liverpool will have regrouped in the international break and, barring further injury problems, are capable of making a strong sprint to the finish.

Next up is a Brighton side with a run of five defeats in their last six away games but plenty of reason to believe in another European finish.

Date, start time and place

Liverpool vs Brighton is scheduled for a 14:00 BST kick-off this afternoon, Sunday 31st March 2024.

The match will take place at Anfield.

Liverpool vs Brighton team news

Andy Robertson is the latest injury problem for Liverpool after limping out of Scotland’s friendly defeat to Northern Ireland on Tuesday night with an ankle problem.

However, he is believed to have avoided another serious problem and will be assessed ahead of Sunday’s game.

In fact, the Reds expect to get at least a few names back from their long list of absentees. Darwin Nunez and Ibrahima Konate are both fit, along with Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo, while Curtis Jones could return.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota will need another week before they can recover from their injuries.

Klopp is without the likes of Alisson Becker, Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic and Joel Matip.

James Milner is likely to miss his return to Liverpool with Brighton due to a thigh injury, with Kaoru Mitoma, Solly March and Jack Hinshelwood also ruled out.

Evan Ferguson and Danny Welbeck are both competing to start up front, with Ansu Fati another contender in attack. Joao Pedro faces a late fitness test.

Brighton have caused Liverpool some real problems over the years, but they have struggled a bit more in the big games this season.

If the Reds show up, few teams can stop them and it may end up being about who can outplay the other.
