KL Rahul may part ways with LSG before IPL 2025: Report

The next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) could see some major roster changes with KL Rahul eyeing a possible exit from Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the 2025 season.

According to a report by Dainik Jagran, all is not well between KL Rahul and the Lucknow franchise. A few months back, a video of franchise owner Sanjeev Goenka’s animated chat with the skipper rocked the internet. Although the duo denied any dispute, the incident seems to have changed the equations completely.

Rahul has led LSG since their debut in 2022 and led them to back-to-back playoff finishes but fell short in the knockout stages of the tournament. The 2024 edition was the worst finish in their short history, finishing seventh in the points table.

The report also suggested that Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) would like to have their former opening batsman back in the camp. However, it remains to be seen whether LSG retain their skipper before entering the mega auction.

The opening batsman is based in Bangalore and has represented Karnataka on the domestic stage. He started his IPL career with RCB in 2013 but then moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad. He, however, returned to the franchise in 2016.

With current RCB skipper Faf du Plessis at 40, the franchise could be looking for a new long-term captain to lead the side for the long haul. If the team decides to move on from the former South African skipper, he would be a like-for-like replacement and give the franchise an extra berth overseas.
