Man charged with arson after ‘serious disturbance’ broke out in Leeds

A man has been charged with arson after a “serious disturbance” broke out in Leeds. Iustin Dobre, 37, was also charged with violent disorder.

West Yorkshire Police said it followed an incident in which a bus caught fire in the Harehills area of ​​the city on Thursday. Mr. Dobre is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.



The force said five people arrested on suspicion of violent disorder remain in police custody. They added that four more people previously arrested have been granted bail.

In a statement issued this evening, the force said: “Detectives investigating a bus fire which took place during serious disturbances in the Harehills area of ​​Leeds on Thursday (July 18) night have charged a man in connection with with the incident. Iustin Dobre, 37, of Clifton Mount, Harehills, Leeds, was charged with violent disorder and reckless arson to endanger life.

“He was remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on Monday (July 22). Earlier today, officers arrested five other people on suspicion of violent disorder. They remain in police custody at this time.

“Four people who were initially arrested in connection with the violent disorder have been released on bail pending further investigation. A vigil was held at Harehills yesterday evening which passed off peacefully. A woman was arrested, suspected of a public order crime, she. he was released and given a conditional caution.

“An increased police presence remains in the area and will do so over the coming days.”
