“The place we need” – explained the role of Frankfurt’s Rasmus Kristensen after his exit from Leeds United

Leeds United defender Rasmus Kristensen will add the ‘punch’ Eintracht Frankfurt needed after his loan deal was confirmed on Friday.

The Danish defender will link up with Dino Toppmoller’s side after agreeing a season-long loan move to the Bundesliga club. It is the second loan of his career at Leeds, following a move to AS Roma last season after the Whites were relegated from the Premier League.

Leeds are closing in on a £5m deal for Sheffield United defender Jayden Bogle, meaning Kristensen has been allowed to leave Elland Road and link up with former United team-mate Robin Koch in Germany. Toppmoller was delighted to have secured the services of the 27-year-old and explained what he will bring to his side.

“Rasmus is a player who goes forward with positive charisma and inspires others,” Toppmoller told Kicker. “With his mindset, leadership skills and experience, he will help us and give us the punch we need as a group.

“We already have a lot of great footballers in the team, now Rasmus brings another element because he works the football a bit more. And the fans in the stadium like to see that. We have high hopes for him, but he also has to cope competition”.

“I would prefer to play with a back four. But there will also be games where we defend with five men and we build with four. On the contrary, we also build with three players and defend with four. It also depends on the personnel and the style of the opponent’s play in a back five, he could also play in the inside half position.
