Amanda Holden’s daughter has been diagnosed with a ‘very rare’ life-threatening disease

Amanda Holden talked about her daughter’s recent E. coli diagnosis. Her 18-year-old daughter Lexi spent five days in hospital after contracting a “very rare” strain of the bacteria and is still undergoing tests to determine if she suffered any permanent damage.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge said Lexi had abdominal cramps and bloating, which they initially put down to exam stress. However, Amanda revealed that her daughter was actually in “quite a lot of pain”, prompting her to seek medical advice.

She detailed that tests showed Lexi had “VTEC E. Coli, a very harmful strain of bacteria that is very rare in humans. A worried Amanda, who was filming BGT at the time and received support from her colleagues, said she was eventually advised by one of her midwives to rush Lexi to hospital.

Speaking to The Sun, she said: “We went straight to Northwick Park Hospital – which specializes in tropical diseases and bacterial infections – and had the most incredible team there who gave him an antibiotic.

She continued: “He had a temperature of 39 points and was deliriously hot. It was awful to see her in so much pain.”

Explaining why she decided to share this now, Amanda expressed her desire to raise awareness about the dangers of E. coli, learning that Lexi is the 113th case in the country. Amanda also revealed that Lexi’s recovery is far from complete, Birmingham Live reports.

She went on to explain, “VTEC was such an oral and destructive bacteria that it could have actually triggered something else with her intestines, like colitis. We will have to wait and see… We pray there is no long term damage. and just seeing how they do.”
