Manchester United issue transfer update on Scott McTominay amid interest from Ugarte and Zubimendi

Erik ten Hag wants to keep Scott McTominay in his squad for next season after Manchester United rejected early bids for the midfielder during the transfer window.

West Ham failed with a £30m move for McTominay a year ago when United were open to selling the academy graduate but demanded a £40m price tag. The 27-year-old has since had his best season for the club, scoring 10 goals and starting in the FA Cup win over Manchester City.

That has led to renewed interest in McTominay this summer and it is understood bids have already been rejected for him, but he only has a year left on his contract, although United have the option to extend it by a year.

Another midfielder could leave Old Trafford this summer, with Casemiro the leading candidate as United look to shed their big wages after a disappointing campaign last term, but interest will also continue in McTominay.

If a senior midfielder leaves, United will continue to bring in a new addition this summer, having held talks with Paris St-Germain about Uruguay international Manuel Ugarte, who is keen to make the switch. There is also interest in Real Sociedad’s Spain international Martin Zubimendi and a move for departing loanee Sofyan Amrabat has not been completely ruled out.

After being open to selling McTominay a year ago, Ten Hag now want to keep him and the Scot will be part of the squad that will travel to Los Angeles on Wednesday for the start of the club’s pre-season tour.
