Robbie Fowler claims Leeds are ‘paying the price’ for a brutal transfer blunder

Robbie Fowler believes Leeds United are suffering the consequences of last season’s failed promotion push.

Losing the Championship play-off final against Southampton saw Leeds United see Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Saints return to the Premier League. The Yorkshire giants will have to try again this season.

And suffering several key exits, including the loss of Archie Gray, who joined Spurs in a £40m deal last month, Daniel Farke has been forced to rethink his starting XI.

Robbie Fowler claims Leeds are ‘paying the price’ for a brutal transfer blunder
Leeds United have confirmed the transfer of Archie Gray to Spurs.

Luke Ayling, Cody Drameh, Rasmus Kristensen, Jamie Shackleton and Connor Roberts have already left but the club have confirmed the signing of Jayden Bogle from Sheffield United.

And Fowler believes Gray’s departure, in particular, was the result of a poor end-of-season run.

“Unfortunately for the fans at Elland Road, this is just the brutal reality of not being in the Premier League. If he had gone back, I’m sure Gray would have stayed. The Greys, too, will probably have mixed emotions. the former professional star told the Mirror.

“Especially Leeds legend Eddie. But until Leeds are an established Premier League club again, losing players like Archie is the price you pay (for not being in the Premier League).
