Everton, Leicester and Southampton take second swipe at player – The drama isn’t over yet

Everton, Leicester City and Southampton may have had a second chance to sign Martin Braithwaite as his proposed move to Olympiakos looks set to be stalled.

That’s what Tipsbladet and Mundo Deportivo say, who both report that the striker has decided to return to Spain and nothing is being done with the Greek team.

Braithwaite has had a busy week, starting on Monday with the surprise decision to buy out his contract at Espanyol and become a free agent.

This opened up the race for his signature, with Everton, Leicester and Southampton all named as potential suitors for the Danish forward.

However, their chances appeared to have ended earlier this week as it soon emerged that Olympiakos were leading the race for Braithwaite, with him heading to Greece to complete a move to the Europa Conference League winners.

Well, it seems there has now been a problem on that front as Tipsbladet have reported that Braithwaite is now on a flight back to Spain.

They report that it is now unclear whether he will join Olympiakos after his planned trip to Athens would also see him complete a medical and sign his contract with them.

Mundo Deportivo claim this, saying the deal to take him to Olympiakos has been called off after appearing to be hours away from being completed.

According to them, “the deal is currently dead” and the Dane, who remains a free agent, is considering other options. One of these is Gremio in Brazil.

It looks like he will look around, though, opening the door for Everton, Leicester and Southampton to revive their interest if they want.
