Nottingham Forest receive transfer response after ‘failed loans’ spark future uncertain

Alex Mighten was on the scoresheet for Nottingham Forest’s academy against Bournemouth today but the club have been told it is time to let the winger go.

Mighten faces an uncertain summer at the Reds, with the winger nearing the end of his contract at the City Ground. But he provided a reminder of his ability today when he scored in a 3-2 win over Bournemouth.

Mighten was on a season-long loan at KV Kortrijk, who finished bottom of the Belgian Pro League last season. He played 12 times in all competitions during a four-month stay.

He then joined Port Vale in January but made just 10 appearances, with a foot injury halting his progress with the club eventually relegated to League Two.

Mighten’s future has been a topic of discussion among Reds fans, given he has been at the club since joining their academy at the age of nine. Here’s what they had to say on social media.

Dave Holmes: “There’s definitely a player there but his recent loan spells have slowed his development, some of that has been unlucky but overall the clubs we’ve sent him to haven’t suited him, with Darren Moore having been hired at Port Vale after what he didn’t play. Wednesday was particularly unlucky though, with this being the final year of his contract, you’d imagine the club would be happy to let him leave for good, but a loan at Rio Ave wouldn’t be surprising either.
