Leeds United have been linked with a move to sign talented PEC Zwolle defender Anselmo Garcia MacNulty as a possible replacement for Junior Firpo this summer.

Replacing key first-team players this summer was going to be the biggest test for Daniel Farke and the recruiting team, knowing that losing the play-off final would be the final act for several of that starting line-up.

At full-back, there are many changes on the right, but on the left is where there is uncertainty regarding Junior Firpo’s position.

Junior Firpo linked with move to Real Betis, Anselmo Garcia MacNulty named replacement

Frequent reports in Spain have said that Leeds left-back Firpo is a key target for his former club Real Betis, who are in their own overhaul in that area after losing two key players, having already signed Romain Perraud from Southampton .

Estadio Deportivo say Betis would be keen to land the 27-year-old and bring him back to Sevilla, and in turn, Leeds are said to be eyeing a replacement for the eight-assist defender.

PEC Zwolle youngster Anselmo Garcia MacNulty is Leeds’ target to fill the left-back spot if Firpo accepts a move to Betis.

Happy to have Aaronson back?

Anselmo Garcia MacNulty would be a mistake to replace Firpo

Garcia MacNulty is undoubtedly a talented player and Leeds would do the right thing by pursuing him, generally speaking.

However, the Republic of Ireland youth international would be a very poor fit to replace Firpo in this scenario, unless Farke is eyeing a change in squad.

MacNulty is a left-sided centre-back who has been able to cover at left-back, in the same way that Leeds have done the same with Pascal Struijk and Max Wöber in the past.

Fans wouldn’t judge the two based on their ability to play left-back, just like Garcia MacNulty shouldn’t be, as he is a talented but versatile centre-back.

Leeds need a left-back who can maintain width in the final third to allow their winger to move up the pitch as Crysencio Summerville made his mark last season and the 21-year-old would not be that player .

He’d be a great signing as a centre-back option, mind you.
