Pau Torres has already revealed why the transfer to Inter Milan could be non-title

Pau Torres looks set to be a player on Inter Milan’s radar next summer as they prepare to switch sides – but the idea of prying the Spain international away from Aston Villa would involve severing an almost unbreakable link.

Torres only joined Villa last summer from Villarreal for a club-record fee at the request of Unai Emery, who he followed to England and the Premier League after winning the Europa League under the Villa boss during their time together in Spain in 2021. Occasional injury problems, Torres’ first campaign at Villa was an impressive one and he established himself on the left side of defence.

Torres has just turned 27 and signed what was reported at the time to be a five-year deal following his nearly £35m move. Reigning Serie A champions Inter Milan are said to be interested in exploring a deal next summer when veteran Francesco Acerbi’s contract expires – but they will do well to share Torres and Emery.

“Unai wants the players to believe in his ideas, in his football,” Torres told TNT Sports in April. “You have to work every day at your high level if you want to play for a Unai team. When he left Villarreal to come here at the end of the season, I needed a coach again in my career to push me into every day. , so I had to come back with Unai to improve my level again. Now, I’m very happy to work with him here.

“It’s my first season here at Aston Villa and my team-mates make everything very easy. They help me in everything and as well it was important for me to get to know the coach, Unai, and his staff for that I worked with them in Villarreal and it gives me confidence, it’s special to be here.

“It’s another step in my career and I think we’re doing a really good job this season. We’re improving on last season’s results for Aston Villa and now we’re in the last month and a half and we’re fighting for a very long time. good stuff.”
