Harehills protests live as large crowd calls for ‘time for change’

As we previously reported, West Yorkshire Police have released an update on Thursday’s riots.

A man has been charged in connection with the bus fire during Thursday’s riot in Harehills.

The suburb of Leeds was notoriously chaotic on Thursday night during the much-publicised disturbance. West Yorkshire Police confirmed that Iustin Dobre, 37, of Clifton Mount, Harehills, Leeds, has been charged with violent disorder and reckless arson to endanger life.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on Monday, July 22. Earlier today, officers arrested another five people on suspicion of violent disorder. They remain in police custody at this time.

Four people who were initially arrested in connection with the violent disorder have been released on bail pending further investigation.

A vigil was held at Harehills yesterday evening which passed off peacefully. A woman was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence, she was released and given a conditional warning.

An increased police presence remains in place in Harehills and the surrounding area and will continue to do so over the coming days.

A Major Incident Portal has been set up where anyone with information, photographs, video footage (including dashcam or ringer footage) relating to the disturbance can submit it via this link – Public Portal (mipp.police.uk).

Anyone with any information can also contact West Yorkshire Police by calling 101 or online here quoting reference Op Jerviswick. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
