Fans shower Monty Don with sweet messages after announcement of ‘beautiful’ dog Ned

Fans have flooded Gardeners’ World star Monty Don with messages after he shared an Instagram post about his beloved dog Ned. Monty, 69, revealed Saturday, July 20, was the golden retriever’s second birthday.

The family welcomed Ned in 2022. Monty posted a photo of the adorable dog and wrote: ‘Today is Ned’s birthday. He is two years old.”

Ned has become a familiar face to viewers as Monty regularly brings his dogs along when filming. Fans were quick to wish Ned a happy birthday and said how happy they were to see him on screen, reports BirminghamLive.

One fan wrote: “Happy Birthday Ned! Your appearances always bring us so much joy.” “Ned always makes me smile when I see him on screen Happy Birthday Ned!” commented a second. “Apparently yesterday he appeared with Nellie for the first time. Happy birthday Ned,” wrote a third.

“Happy birthday Ned we all love you!” commented another fan, while a fifth added: “Happy birthday Ned beautiful boy!”

Ned is the younger of Monty’s two dogs, with Yorkshire Terrier Patti the older of the pair, and Monty is incredibly close to his pup. He’s had a pack of furry friends over the years and his website professes his love for dogs.

He writes: “I’ve lived with dogs all my life, so it’s only natural for me to be accompanied by a dog or two wherever I’m in the garden. It’s their garden as much as mine or any other family member’s.

“One thing I take for granted is that by and large they do absolutely no damage and are totally respectful of the garden. They (rarely) dig holes or crash through flower beds. Treat long paths like bowling alleys. career in chasing the ball we are bound to throw, but it is harmless enough.’

The late broadcaster’s dog Nigel, another golden retriever, became the surprise star of BBC Two’s Gardeners’ World, receiving his own fan mail and fan accounts on social media. Monty was devastated when he died in 2020 after suffering sudden violent fits. Three years later, Monty sadly lost his other beloved dog Nell, another golden retriever, to cancer.
