Britain is bracing for a heatwave, with temperatures set to reach 28C in parts

A heatwave could be on its way to Britain, with weather maps turning deep red as temperatures are forecast to soar. New WXCHARTS weather maps show maximum temperatures of 28°C in southern regions on August 2, while northern areas could reach 25°C.

It follows a sweltering day on Friday, when St James’s Park in central London recorded its highest temperature this year at 31.9C. The change from wet and windy conditions will be a welcome change for those discouraged by the lackluster summer so far.

According to WXCHARTS and Netweather charts, the warm spell on August 2 could cover the entire country, Express reports. Even Scotland can feel the hot weather, with thermometers set to hit 25 degrees Celsius, according to the map’s predictions.

Places such as Wick, Inverness, Fort William, Aberdeen and Edinburgh are expected to experience high temperatures of between 24 and 25C, based on weather mapping reports. Southern areas – including London, Birmingham and Southampton may witness the highest temperatures during this period.

After temperatures topped 30C across much of the UK on Friday, leading meteorologist and weather expert Jim Dale suggested to Express.co.uk that a prolonged heatwave was “long overdue”. Jim Dale, founder of the British Weather Services, said: “A prolonged heatwave is to be expected as we haven’t had one this summer. It was always short lived.

“The expectation would be that we will see a week sometime in August that provides a warm weather scenario. When that will be is difficult to say because it is still a long way off,” he added, as climate change made forecasts increasingly difficult because of the unexpected. weather changes.

The Met Office also forecast “warmer than average conditions” from early August to mid-month. For August 4-18, he reported: “Signals at the start of the month are fairly balanced between a mix of westerly flows with occasional set spells that turn into slightly favorable spells that sometimes develop during the month, particularly in south. .

“However, there is still a substantial chance for other types of weather, also with more changeable periods. Over the period as a whole, drier than average conditions are more likely than wetter than average. Warmer-than-average conditions are also poorly favored overall. , with a slightly increased chance of short-lived warm spells.”
