Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya thanks BCCI for ‘strong support’ of Indian contingent participating in Paris 2024 Olympics

Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports thanked Jay Shah, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for his support to the Indian contingent in the upcoming Paris Olympics by providing INR 8.5 million. at the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).

“Thank you @BCCI for your strong support to our Indian contingent at the #ParisOlympics2024. We are proud of every athlete who represents our nation. May they shine brightly! The whole nation cheers our athletes. #Cheer4Bharat,” said Dr. Mandaviya through his “X” account.

In a significant move on Sunday evening, Shah announced that the BCCI will provide the IOA with monetary support of ₹8.5 crore, which will go towards the Indian contingent participating in the Paris Olympics starting July 26.

“Proud to announce that @BCCI will support our incredible athletes representing #India at the Paris Olympics 2024. We are giving IOA INR 8.5 crore towards the campaign. Our entire contingent, we wish you well. Make India proud! Jai Hind!” Shah wrote on “X”.

The contingent for the mega quadrennial event to be held between July 26 and August 11 includes 117 athletes – of which 70 are men and 47 are women – and 140 support staff members.

Some of the biggest names in the Indian contingent for the Paris Olympics include two-time medalist badminton player PV Sindhu, who will be the country’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony alongside table tennis player Sharath Kamal.

Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Neeraj Chopra in the javelin, lightweight Mirabai Chanu, who won a silver medal, and boxer Lovlina Borgohain, who won a bronze medal, as well as the men’s hockey team that won the the bronze medalists will also be seen in action during the upcoming Paris Olympics.
