Another Coventry thug was jailed for trouble before Fidel Glasgow was stabbed

Another Coventry murderer has been jailed for his part in the violence that broke out before a young man was stabbed to death. Fidel Glasgow died following a brawl in the city center in 2018.

He was stabbed outside Club M in the early hours of September 1 and later died in hospital. West Midlands Police have not yet charged anyone in connection with his death.

Ten men were initially sentenced in 2022 for their roles in the trouble that led to Fidel’s death. Now another one has been added – Idris Rahman.

The 26-year-old was convicted earlier this year of violent disorder. At Coventry Crown Court last Monday, Rahman, of Morey Street, was jailed for two years and two months.

West Midlands Police said it brought the total jail term for the 11 men involved to nearly 30 years. But the hunt remains on for the suspect who stabbed Fidel, 21, who is the nephew of The Specials singer Neville Staple.

An inquest into his death last year and a homicide detective said a key witness was never interviewed after he left the country. There were 17 people involved in the first of two “disturbances” that broke out on September 1, 2018.

Inspector Ian Comfort told an inquest there remains one person who was in the area at the time of the first disturbance who has not yet been spoken to. “There is one person who has been identified in the group of 17 around the car who was able to leave the country before he was identified by the police, before he was arrested for interview,” Mr Comfort said.

“He left in September and was supposed to fly back, he didn’t fly back and he hasn’t come back to the country since. He was circulated as a wanted man. But there’s no more evidence against him than there is for any of the other people.” .

The hunt for him and others continues. A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “No one has yet been convicted of Fidel’s murder and we are still appealing for anyone who saw what happened to come forward via 101 or Live Chat, quoting crime number 20CV /83274Q/21”.
