The Bradford County Senior Expo is almost here

ATHENS, Pa. (WETM) — Bradford County seniors can learn about local programs and services during an event Friday.

Representative Tina Pickett hosts the 23rd annual Bradford County Senior Expo from 10am to 1pm on July 26. Hundreds of Bradford County residents age 55 and older and their family members are expected to visit Lynch-Bustin Elementary School, which is located at 253 Pennsylvania Ave. in Athens for this event.

“Our expo provides a unique opportunity to learn about the wide variety of programs and services available to older residents in our area,” Pickett said.

Dozens of organizations with information on healthcare, insurance, nutrition, exercise, veterans benefits, government services, financial planning, fraud protection and more will be at the expo. In addition, Pickett will hold a town hall meeting in the cafeteria at 11:30 a.m

Attendees can safely dispose of old prescriptions and documents at this event. The Bradford County Sheriff’s Office is providing a drop box for people to dispose of expired medications, and there will be a free paper shredder truck from North Central Sight Services in the parking lot. Free shredding will be available from 10 a.m. to noon, open to residents only (not businesses), and each person is limited to two boxes of documents.

Local agencies and hospitals are experiencing system outages due to global Crowdstrike issues

“We are excited to once again be able to offer the free shredding service at our show,” said Pickett. “Identity theft is a rapidly growing crime, and this will give senior residents a safe and secure way to destroy documents containing their personal and financial information.”

Those planning to attend the expo should take the second business exit from Athens on US Route 220 to Pine Street to reach the event. A shuttle service will be on site to take people from the parking lot to the front door of the school starting at 9:30am. The school building is air-conditioned, so participants don’t have to worry about the exhibition being too hot.

Any questions about the exhibit should be directed to Picket’s district office in Sayre by calling 570-888-9011. Her Sayre and Towanda offices will be closed Thursday and Friday in preparation for the event, and her Tunkhannock office will be closed Friday.
