Five Cornish houses you can buy for £100,000 – including riverside flat

A riverside apartment in a popular tourist spot has come on the market for less than £100,000, making it one of the cheapest properties to buy in Cornwall. The one-bedroom ground floor flat on The Quay in West Looe is being sold by estate agents Stratton Creber with no chain and priced at £90,000.

The agent said: “The property comprises one double bedroom, shower room, kitchen and lounge, and benefits from a courtyard and West Looe location. The property requires refurbishment and forms one of five period house converted flats.”

The Office for National Statistics now puts average house prices in Cornwall at £301,000 from January 2024, which is down 2.8% on January 2023. Meanwhile, the average price paid by first-time buyers has was £247,000 in January, 2.8 per cent lower than the £254,000 average a year ago.

Falling home prices, the increased time it takes to sell a home, sellers offering more and more price cuts all point to the fact that the Covid market frenzy may be over and the housing bubble has burst.

According to CornwallLive’s analysis of the latest price paid data from the Land Registry, Camborne takes the crown as the cheapest place in the county to buy a home. The statistics show that homes in the TR14 postcode area – which covers Camborne – sold for an average of £237,026 in the 12 months to the end of April.
