A horrific crash on a major A road claimed the lives of two children and four adults today.

The horror crash on the A61 between Wakefield and Barnsley was a catastrophic incident involving a devastating full head-on crash involving a Ford Focus and a motorbike this afternoon. The carnage was witnessed at the site between Staincross, Barnsley and Newmillerdam, Wakefield, with initial reports arriving at around 3.54pm, West Yorkshire Police confirmed.

Four passengers in the car died – a man, a woman and two children, a boy and a girl. Tragically, the pair on board the motorcycle, another man and a woman, also died in the horrific collision.

Following the crash, West Yorkshire Police issued a somber statement, detailing: “Six people, including four adults and two children, have died in a collision between Wakefield and Barnsley this afternoon (21/7 )”.

The force further clarified: “The collision, which involved two vehicles, took place on the A61 Barnsley Road between Staincross, Barnsley and Newmillerdam, Wakefield.”

They said the first calls they received about the horrific incident involving a Ford Focus and a motorcycle were made at 3.54pm.

In a tragic statement, they noted: “A motorcyclist and a passenger, a male and a female, were confirmed dead at the scene. An adult man and woman and two children, a man and a woman, who were traveling in the car. , were also confirmed dead at the scene.”

Adding to the seriousness of the situation, Superintendent Alan Travis, of Wakefield District Police, commented: “This is an absolutely tragic incident which has resulted in the loss of six lives.”
