Harry Toffolo sends a four-word message to Elliot Anderson after starting training with him at Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest brought in Elliot Anderson in the summer transfer window as the Reds did business with Newcastle, allowing both clubs to reach the PSR threshold.

Forest got the better end of the deal. Nuno Espirito Santo landed a talented player with Premier League experience as the Magpies signed Odysseas Vlachodimos – Trentside’s third-choice goalkeeper.

Anderson has played in both of Forest’s friendlies so far; a win over Chesterfield and a draw against Sunderland on Friday night.

At 21, he looks like a signing with an eye on the future and his arrival was part of a new recruitment pattern that sees the Reds focus on signing talented players with bags of energy.

Anderson has been training with his team-mates for several weeks and appears to be impressing his team-mates on the training ground and could be ready to play at the City Ground.

Harry Toffolo texts Elliot Anderson after training with him at Forest

The Reds have headed to Spain every year since returning to the Premier League and the team still have games against Millwall and Elche to look forward to at the Pinatar Arena.

Toffolo will battle for a place in the team with Ola Aina and Omar Richards this season, with Forest now having a number of options at left-back.

He has been so impressed with Anderson since his arrival at the City Ground and has now taken to Instagram to praise one aspect of his game.

The player signed from Huddersfield for £2.5m in the summer of 2022, Anderson posted on Instagram: “Great work ethic mate.”

Anderson is clearly a good coach and that could make him the type of player who can impress Nuno Espirito Santo and quickly secure a place in the team on a regular basis.

Newcastle players praise Elliot Anderson

While the players in the Forest dressing room are still not too familiar with Anderson, the same cannot be said for the Newcastle stars.

They’ve seen it all before and Bruno Guimaraes praised him last pre-season after a win over Brighton.

He told Chronicle Live: “I’m happy for Elliot Anderson, he’s a good player and a good time. It was a good way for him to finish our pre-season campaign here.”

It seems Eddie Howe would have liked to keep him at Newcastle too.

In April, he told TNT Sports: “Elliot Anderson was excellent, he tried to get into the team and stay there.”

Former Newcastle player Shay Given has spoken of his disappointment that Newcastle were forced to sell Anderson in the summer.

Finally, Allan Saint-Maximin posted “What a player” on Anderson’s Instagram message following a strong pre-season and last season.

Anderson will bring energy and guile to the Forest team

Ryan Yates is a player in the Forest dressing room who, like Anderson at Newcastle, is living the dream playing for his boyhood club.

Yates is often praised for his application in training and matches – and now it seems he has a man trying to take his top coaching crown off his head.

Anderson has been dubbed the ‘Geordie Maradona’ at St James’ Park and will want to quickly impress the Forest fans as well.

At 21, the future is bright for the youngster and he will have moved to Forest with an eye on playing regularly – something he didn’t always do at Newcastle.

His ability on the ball and commitment to the cause will not go unnoticed on Trentside and it is a real positive that he is working hard in training.
