Thousands turn out for the first Dudley Pride

Thousands of people attended a day of joy and celebration in Dudley town center yesterday (July 20).

Colorful flags and rainbow stalls lined the streets around Stone Street Market as Dudley held its first outdoor pride event, complete with funfair and family activities.

Drag Queen Trixie Lee entertained the crowds with emotional crowd participation and inspirational words.

There were performances by the likes of Xfactor finalist Georgia Burgess, Birmingham’s Rainbow Voices Choir and Word of Mouth DJ Stuart Ojelay.

Baga Chipz MBE headlined the event run by Dudley Council.

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star, actress, singer-songwriter, comedian, former Page 3 model and women’s darts champion entertains with live vocals, comedy and stunning costumes.

A Dudley Council spokesman said: “The atmosphere was warm, welcoming and friendly, with people of all ages filling the marquee and spilling right into Stone Street.”

Councilor Hilary Bills, Mayor of Dudley, said: “Dudley Pride was an absolutely glorious event. The atmosphere was so warm and positive.

“Everyone felt welcome, included and safe.

“The performers were fantastic and the crowds were 100% behind them, happily joining in.

“I’m so glad we were able to show our support for the LGBTQ+ community and make it a day to remember.”

The event was made possible by Commonwealth Games Legacy Funding and event sponsors Midtherm Powder Coating, Harry Jones Funfairs and Connect2Dudley.
