An area of ​​Merseyside is ‘transported to a Mediterranean location’ when the sun comes out, according to a local pub owner. The owner of Hoggins Irish Pub, on South Road, spoke of the area’s increasingly “cosmopolitan” reputation after celebrating a year in business.

Hoggins is part of the Circle and Hen family group, which has established its own portfolio over the past five years, including Jubilee. The venue had a successful first year in business as an Irish themed pub. With its takeaway drinks menu and live entertainment, it adds to the already varied selection of food, drink and entertainment venues on South Road, which is described as a ‘vibrant area’.




Lloyd, owner of Hoggins Irish Pub, said: “It took us a considerable amount of time to choose our South Road space and we are so delighted to now be a dedicated part of this vibrant area and its rich and varied music scene. pub and restaurants. One thing that became very clear to us in the summer months of 2023 was how much the atmosphere changes when the weather rises.

“As soon as a hint of sunshine arrives, it feels like the whole of South Road is transported to an almost Mediterranean location and so we want to embrace that feeling. It’s such a fantastic location and it’s like a village within a city. , with key transport links nearby, its unique cinema and the beautiful beach just steps away.

“I noticed last summer that when you’re on South Road in the sunlight, you could really be anywhere in the world – it has that international feel.” The team behind Hoggins decided to embrace the move into its second year of trading by extending trading hours to weekends, Fridays and Saturdays, until 3am. The weekend will now feature DJs and live music, playing old hymns and favourites.

Lloyd added: “That’s why we’ve also extended our trading hours because ordinary people have said they’d rather stay local now than go into the city centre. We look forward to welcoming everyone this summer, allowing us to embrace our fresh concept.

“Of course, we keep all the elements of Hoggins, which means our customers come back to us, but we also welcome new guests who want to enjoy that food and drink with an extensive drinks menu and live entertainment. in the South Road area made us one of their favorite places to enjoy a great day or evening – or both.”
