Upgraded’s Archie Renaux says chemistry with Camila Mendes came ‘pretty naturally’

Shadow and Bone star Archie Renaux is back in the rom-com genre with new Prime Video film Upgraded, which is released tomorrow (February 9).

The film sees Renaux team up with Riverdale star Camila Mendes in a classic romantic comedy tale of a cute encounter on a plane that leads to a case of mistaken identity while Ana (Mendes) pretends to be a boss of great power art.

Talk with The digital spyRenaux explained how the chemistry with Mendes was “pretty easy” to develop, even before filming.

“I find (it’s) easy to get to know a person quickly (with) a bit of a laugh and a joke around. That came quite naturally, it’s a lot of fun. It was very easy and I jumped at every single one. another immediately,” he praised.

“We needed that in this movie to have those banter and ping each other, it was simple to get to that.”

Mendes agreed with her co-star, adding that working with Renaux was something she wanted to do, considering the duo share the same manager.

“I was always like, ‘He’s so cute, I’m so in love,'” she joked to Digital Spy. “As soon as (my manager) said, ‘We should bring him on this project,’ I said, ‘Absolutely, yes.’

“He put us in touch on a group message, and he and I texted for months before the movie to get to know each other and build up a little bit of banter so that we had enough chemistry in it and there was some familiarity.”

Upgraded also marks Mendes’ first time as an executive producer on a film, which he found was helped by his seven years working on Riverdale.

“Being on a show for so long and working with multiple directors and always interacting with the producers, I naturally built up a skill set that I didn’t really know I had until I was thrown into this experience,” she mentioned.

The update launches on Prime Video on February 9.
