Battersea to see new 20-storey apartment blocks after plans given green light – South London News

By Charlotte Lillywhite, Local Democracy Reporter

New apartments in apartment blocks after the approval of the plans, up to 20 floors will be built.

A deposit will be demolish to make way for the two new buildings in Battersea, which will also have industrial units on the lower floors.

A total of 88 flats will be built across both blocks on Gwynne Road under plans by developer JACHO (Battersea) Ltd, with one block 20 storeys in height and the other eight storeys.

The scheme will have 28 affordable homesrepresenting 32% of the total scheme, including 18 social rented homes.

The developer originally proposed to build 90 homes, but later reduced it to 88 after making some design changes.

Wandsworth council’s planning committee unanimously approved the plans on July 18. Labor councilor Paul White said he was “very much in favour” of the scheme and praised the level of social housing it provides.

A report submitted with the application said the site was well connected to public transport, including just eight minutes’ walk from Clapham Junction station.

It said: “This development will bring much-needed vibrant workspace and living to an area which is in transition from a mixed-use past to a modern mixed-use urban neighbourhood.”
